The Heron Flats & Lofts Apartments - LEED Platinum
Redmond Washington GGLO Design |
The Heron Flats & Lofts is comprised of ninety five units of market rate housing adjacent to a heron rookery. Live work units and amenities wrap the base of the building facing the public street frontages. Above the podium level the building is organized into two towers separated by a courtyard space. One of primary exterior features is a soaring roof form which channels rain water from the roof into an oversized downspout and directed into a bioswale which allows stormwater to slowly infiltrate back into the landscape.
As an Architectural Designer, working on the Heron was my first experience during the construction observation phase of a project of this size. I met weekly with owner and general contractor for site walks and was the point person for reviewing submittals and RFIs and distributing to consultants. One of the highlights working on the Heron was the close coordination with GGLO Interiors and Landscape team and consultants: Structural - DCI Engineers, Building Envelope - BEE Consulting.
